would it be weird, say, for a woman to rub scented oil on a supposedly celibate man's feet? would you think there's something else going on, so to speak? innocent question of course. implying nothing at all about no one in particular
religion may have been the oppiate of the masses but 'AI' will be the LSD
citrus is a subtropical plant which means the seeds either germinate right away or they die. in february i had some delicious oranges from a tree growing wild by a stream, and as i usually do i saved the seeds and then put them in the ground. but it was always a long shot because it was too cold for them to germinate, so i didn't expect them to. but faith is important, so today walking about in my garden, there they were, sprouting. i had completely forgotten about them after a couple of weeks. it's not supposed to be possible and yet there they are. nine of them. i don't remember how many i put in the ground, but it couldn't have been many more than nine. i always try stuff out and never accept received wisdom. also found random black eyed peas germinating. but that's more normal. lots of other volunteers already did (tomatoes, zinnias, cosmos, potatoes, basil). two more years here and everything i like will grow itself. all i'll have to do is walk around, find them and enjoy. (crops that sprout on their own after the first season are called volunteers. it suggests the ones we plant on purpose are conscripts. my goal is to eventually have only free plants in my garden. call me a vegetative libertarian).
it would be much better for platonists to actually worship Plato. unfortunately philosophy enthusiasts are incapable of worship. the thing about worship is that you recognize not someTHING, but someBODY above you. ideas are safe. people are scary. implies vulnerability.
the most important thing about gardening is leaving things alone, especially at the edges. did i say gardening? i meant religion. did i say religion? i meant marriage. did i say marriage? i meant art.
it's all out war on every front against anything true, good and beautiful. and the deadline to choose sides was before you were born.
i follow things to their logical seclusion
i'm becoming convinced that the meta in metanoia, metaphysics, metaphor, etc, is misunderstood (and for thousands of years). and that only the germanics remained faithful to the PIE root meaning. the implications are a little jarring. the meta in metaphysics is cognate with middle, for example, but the meaning is almost the exact opposite. what it means is that none of these things is beyond, but rather, within, in the midst. in other words, innate - the forbidden idea. the fact that the word doesn't appear in John and only once in Mark (and related to the Baptist, not Jesus) is quite telling. repentance is not what people think.
the story of the flood goes like this: God decides something drastic with no exceptions. a man convinces God that he is an exception. exception is made. then God says he'll never do the drastic thing again. (until he finds an exception).
a plant moves only by growing. and this is the ideal. at least according to Jesus.
i like the double nature of english, but it also gives space for the most absurd redundancies to go unnoticed or even be regarded as profound. just the other day i saw the construction 'the vitality of life' in an aphorism being applauded for its depth. it could not happen if the latin was changed to the germanic 'the lifeness of life'.
when i wrote my first novel i briefly considered trying to get it published the conventional way. luckily i am impatient, and so gave up the idea. that's the first benefit: not having to wait. the second is doing whatever i want the way i want. but perhaps the best thing about self publishing is not having the deal with professionals.
it's been many years but besides his sanctity what still stands out to me about Fr. Seraphim Rose is how he went so deep into Guenon and was subsequently able to write without guenonisms. it's very hard. i myself was very, very, very guilty of it. took a while to recover. most never do. in my case it helped that i ended up rejecting his premises. but in Fr. Seraphim's case it's much more impressive given he remained a guenonian, albeit one flavored by eastern orthodoxy.
the way you conduct yourself is almost everything. are you an orchestra or a train, or a business?
every once in a while, and briefly, i wish i could visit the new york that only ever existed in Woody Allen's mind.
if a seed is buried too deep it won't germinate. Jesus never talked about this particular case in his parable but it is implied.
almonds are just badly pronounced amygdalas
i could not agree or disagree more or less
after the election of the new pope there will be a lot of seethe vacantes. an american pope? end times end times end times. but why isn't he black and trans? personally i was hoping for an israeli pope. is this the one who will finally lead the long prophesied catholic mormon merger? either way, an infallible american, imagine that.
not even the hebrews can rival the chinese in their obsession with recording history and culture.
i'm always falling in love with the same people and the same things. i'm a genius at loving the things i love.
every petal
plucked and unplucked
says i love her
'our side' has already figured out long ago that the world we live in is based on fictions. but then instead of writing better fictions, it protests about the nature of reality. losing battle.
ferns make me yearn for dinosaurs
we need to stop mincing words and start julienning them
you can't just mind your own business, you have to body it
decided to listen to Pink Floyd’s Echoes and was struck by the inside of the cover for the album (Meddle), wherein the four races of the british isles are represented by the band, from right to left: Norman, Anglo-Saxon, Welsh, Easter Island statue.
"it would be much better for platonists to actual worship Plato. unfortunately philosophy enthusiasts are incapable of worship. the thing about worship is that you recognize not someTHING, but someBODY above you. ideas are safe. people are scary. implies vulnerability." So true.

"ferns make me yearn for dinosaurs". Also true!
After reading all of these, I must say, I could not agree or disagree more or less.
